Madonna, Chili Peppers to Play Live Earth Concert

11 April 2007

High profile artists Madonna and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been confirmed to perform at 2007's 'Live Earth' concerts.

The star studded line up for the London leg also includes Keane, Snow Patrol, Razorlight, the Black Eyed Peas, Bloc Party, Corrine Bailey Rae, James Blunt, the Foo Fighters, John Legend, Paolo Nutini, and the recently reformed Duran Duran and Genesis.

The London show is scheduled for July 7 at Wembley stadium, but will be happening in other cities simultaneously over that 24 hour period.

The 'Live Earth' concerts will also be held in Shanghai, Johannesburg and Sydney, and possibly Japan, the US and Brazil.

Live Earth founder Kevin Wall said that "This monster line-up will ensure Live Earth meets our goal of bringing together people from around the world to combat the climate crisis."

"Live Earth will not only span all seven continents, but the musicians who have answered our call span multiple genres and generations."

The concerts aim to raise global awareness about climate change, with publicity being headed by former US Vice President and environmentalist Al Gore. To further promote the issue, organizers wish to broadcast the event on radio, television and the internet.

"By attracting an audience of billions we hope Live Earth will launch a global campaign giving a critical mass of people around the world the tools they need to help solve the climate crisis," Gore says. "But ultimately, corporations and governments must become global leaders taking decisive action to stop global warming."

Funds raised will go towards creating a foundation to help combat climate change, and with such a fantastic string of acts, it looks to be a great concert.
