Jess Vs Britney

12 September 2005

It was a matter of Blonde versus Blonde when Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears went head to head auditioning for the role of Daisy Duke, in the recent screen adaptation of the 1970-80s TV hit 'The Dukes of Hazzard'.

But while Britney was busy making babies, Jessica was busy hounding the producers for the role.

"I knocked down the producers' door," said Jess. "I was begging for the role."

But early audition disasters saw the director questioning Jess' acting ability.

Said director Jay Chandrasekhar: "She's a pop star and I thought 'What the hell does that have to do with making movies?'"

"The truth is she would come in and did some auditions and they were quiet and small. They weren't bad, but they were quiet, nervous and shy.

"I said 'What's going on?'

"She said 'I'm f***ing scared'.

"I said 'You're not going to get the part unless you smile and you have to be charming. You already are charming, so why don't you just be like you are. Try smiling in these four places when you do it next time'."

So the next audition that Jessica did, she came in armed with a pair of Daisy Dukes and a smile - and got the role!

"I looked at her through the monitor and she was glowing," Chandrasekhar said.

Take heed all you wannabe actors. . .it's as easy as that!
