Shihad

Shihad changed their name to Pacifier in early 2002 after the September 11 (2001) attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York made it impossible to keep their former name. Pacifier wanted to keep their career on track for America, and announced in January 2002 that given the band name's similarity to the word 'jihad' meaning holy war, they would have to change it. Pacifier is the result. The first single they released under the name Pacifier was 'Comfort Me'.

Shihad was formed in 1988, and they have performed at the Big Day Out and Sweetwaters. Pacifier is the first New Zealand band to have two self titled albums.

The band changed its name back to Shihad in 2004.
