Jam Master Jay Shot Dead

The music world was shocked on Thursday afternoon (Oct 31st) by the tragic, untimely death of Run DMC member Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell.

Jam Master Jay, founding member of the pioneering rap trio Run DMC, was shot and killed at his recording studio near the New York neighbourhood where he grew up.

A statement issued by Arista Records states:

"All of us at Arista Records are deeply saddened by the news of the murder of Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. Run DMC were the true innovators and creators of hip hop, seeping deep into the public consciousness with their lyrical ingenuity and groundbreaking musical style. They've set trends and made history and their impact will continue to be felt for generations to come. They will always remain an influential and integral part of music history. Jason Mizell will be truly missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends."
