According to Billy Corgan and Jess Origliasso's Twitter.com accounts the couple of 2 years have split -- and Smashing Pumpkin fans are not happy!
Corgan, who is set to feature on The Veronica's soon-to-be-released album Life On Mars, was forced to defend his ex against attacks from vicious fans after news of the split broke.
After Jess received a number of aggressive and hurtful messages, Billy finally had enough and took to his Twitter account to speak out in support of her.
In a series of posts he wrote, "Ladies and gentleman, it seems some among you have construed that their issue is an issue between me and my ex @Jessicaveronica, some hidden thing."
"I'm taking to twitter (because I see where she is being attacked here) and I ask that she be respected as a woman I love and admire."
He ended with, "Although our relationship has ended, we remain the best of friends and I ask that if you respect me you'll treat her with the same respect."
Jessica also took to the social networking site to thank all her supporters, writing over a number of posts, "How cool and sweet are all you little lovers <3 Thankyou for all your kind words. People love to make assumptions about the details of others relationships, & all you can hope for is that each person involved will stand up & honour the truth, & love about it all. I am so grateful for you all right now. Sending out clouds of love to each of you X."
Billy revealed to The Herald Sun back in 2010 that the pair met during a songwriting session.
At the time he said, "She's bought a lot of sunshine in my life, but I was ready to receive it. The window is open. If she'd met me a few years ago I don't know if I would have understood her, she's just such a unique person, there's not a lot of people I've met who are like her."
What do you think about this? Should fans back off when their favourite singer breaks up with his/her partner?
