Bobby Flynn Biography

Bobby Flynn
And its something quite peculiar ...
In 2001, I dropped out of uni, wanting to write songs full time. I ended
up moving to the Northern Territory. In a literal, cheesy sense, this song
reminds me of that time.
Thats Bobby Flynn, talking about The Church classic Under The Milky Way.
Almost 20 years to the day after the original was released, Bobbys
version is now his debut single.
Its the only track Bobby didnt write on his debut album, Out Front, but he
was eager to tackle the song in the studio.
Its a great Australian song, Bobby says. Ive always been a big
fan of The Church.
Under The Milky Way is the song that got Bobby into the Top 12 on Australian
Idol in 2006. Mark Holden called Bobbys version a space-age croon, and it
almost turned The Church singer Steve Kilbey into an Idol fan.
Spreading the BobbyLove.
Oh, Im almost ashamed of myself, but I cant stop now, Steve wrote in
his blog after watching Bobbys performance. I have to say I have slightly
adjusted my opinion of Idol. First of all, Bobby Flynn is just my cuppa tea
weirdly handsome, great hair, and you can see in his eyes this cat is gone,
man ... hes a natural.
Hes the kinda freak they should be discovering.
Bobby, I dig ya, man.
Under The Milky Way is The Churchs biggest hit, reaching the Australian Top
10 in 1988 and winning Single of the Year at the ARIA Awards. The song also
hit number 24 in the US.
Not long after his Idol performance, Bobby met Steve Kilbey at a book launch
in Glebe. Steve then added to his blog: Wow, Im impressed. Hes got the
X-factor in spades.
He could still possibly blow it, or some mother in a suit could still blow it for
him, but hes just got this feeling about him that hes generating
music all the time.
He verily doth know the great and subtle secret of performance.
Bobby, I hope you go all the way, olde son.
Leads you here, despite your destination,
under the milky way tonight ..."
