NME Name Lady Gaga's Born This Way 'Most Pretentious Album Ever'

26 February 2012

Earlier this week, British music magazine NME released a list of what they deemed the '10 Most Pretentious Albums Ever'.

The list included The Smashing Pumpkins 'Machina/Machines of God' and the Lou Reed and Metallica joint effort 'Lulu'.

But top of the list was Lady Gaga's Born This Way.

NME writer Priya Elan wrote, "On Born This Way, [Gaga] seemed to believe in her own hype, convinced she had a message to share. Cue an album of unwieldy 'anthems' that couldn't mask the fact that the fun had left the building."

In response to the vicious jab, Lady Gaga has taken to Twitter.com to defend herself.

She wrote, "Oh the irony of winning 'Most Pretentious Album Ever' from none other than NME. *eyeroll* I might laugh forever (and) then return to narcissism."
