take40.com exclusiveSelf-confessed tech nerd Cassie Davis has come a long way from the days of mixing music in the classroom. When take40.com spoke to her earlier this week she revealed that her classmates used to tease her about her music, but after three hit singles and a well-received debut album, Cassie has had the last laugh.
Currently touring schools around Australia as part of the 'Walkman Live Your Life Loud Tour', Cassie had the opportunity to return to her former Perth high school Kingsway Christian College to perform and hold a music workshop for students.
Cassie's brother had sneakily tipped us off prior to the interview about Cassie's high school nickname so, naturally we quizzed her!
Watch Cassie Davis - 'Like It Loud'"I didn't like it - they were being mean to me! Because I was always into music and did my own production and was making beats even back then," Cassie explained to take40.com. "But they used to make fun of me for it."
So.... What was her nickname?
"They called me 'Fat Beats'!" Cassie cringed. "And they were so horrible they put posters up and (they'd) be like 'Fat Beats, Fat Beats, Fat Beats'!"
It's 23-year-old Cassie who's had the last laugh though, hitting back at those classmates who made fun of her saying: "Whatever! Now my fat beats are on the radio so eat that!"
The 'Like It Loud' hit-maker assured us that despite the name-calling, she's fine now. "It's good because I've made a career out of it and I love it."
Cassie's debut album 'Differently' hit stores last week, supported by her killer current single 'Do It Again'.
