Killer Criticism For Green Day

17 October 2006

The Killers' singer Brandon Flowers has lashed out at Green Day for being too un-American in both their music and actions.

"You have Green Day and American Idiot," says Brandon. "Where do they film their DVD? In England. A bunch of kids screaming 'I don't want to be an American idiot'. I saw it as a very negative thing towards Americans...I'm sure they meant it in the same way that Bruce Springsteen meant Born In The USA and it was taken wrongly, but I was really offended when I saw them do that."

Brandon, whose band have a distinctly English sound, says that for their new album he made a conscious effort to sound American. "For me, the things that were deliberate were to sing like an American, because I'm an American. I guess the American thing came from people who were talking about how English we sounded, and me actually singing with a fake accent."

"Americans are getting a bad rap right now...It's because of the war and everything that's going on. It's understandable, but to an extent it's not fair because we're just people that were born here."
