What do you get when you put two of the world's biggest and most politically charged bands together? You get the highly passionate, electricfyingly rocking new single 'The Saints Are Coming'. Recorded to support victims of the devastating hurricane Katrina in New Orleans last year, the song was first performed at the grand re-opening of the New Orleans Superdome on Monday 25th September, 2006 by both bands.
'The Saints Are Coming' was originally recorded by the Scottish punk-rock band The Skids and was chosen by U2 and Green Day to cover because of the appropriateness of the lyrics. "When the idea of playing at the Superdome re-opening first came up I immediately thought of 'The Saints Are Coming'," says U2 axe-man The Edge. "It could have been written for this occasion. The lyric fits so well it's almost eerie."
The song is available to buy now and to celebrate the coming together of two of take40.com's greatest ever bands we present you with the original live recording of 'The Saints Are Coming' from the New Orleans Superdome on Monday 25th September. It's massive: U2 and Green Day 'The Saints Are Coming'
