MOVIE REVIEW - REMEMBER ME

The Take 40 crew checked out Robert Pattinson's new 'non-Twilight' film Remember Me today so if you're thinking about going to see it, make sure you read our review first!

We'll begin by saying that any Twilight fans going to see this film are going to sit through the whole thing thinking 'It's Edward'. Unfortunately for Rob, playing the role of Edward Cullen in the insanely popular Twilight series, while it has no doubt been lucrative for him, will leave him typecast as Edward for the most of his acting career (Much like Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe's appearance in the indie flick December Boys).

R-Patz lovers will delight in some of the scenes in Remember Me that feature Rob shirtless and getting hot and steamy with Aussie co-star Emilie De Ravin (Lost).

I'd love to put Edward Cullen aside, but Pattinson's character Tyler Hawkins is in many ways a lot like Edward. He's broody, misunderstood, sexily dishevelled and prone to the occasional fit of rage to protect the ones he loves. Only difference is he seems to feed on cigarettes and alcohol rather than blood!

The disorganised plot centralises around Tyler and Ally Craig (De Ravin), who meet at college in New York after Ally's father --a local cop -- arrested Tyler for violent behaviour during a punch on in a dark alley. Tyler romances Ally for a bet and predictably, he falls in love with her and the pair become dependent on each other as they go through some tough times.

Part of Tyler's trouble is due to his screwed up family, from which he lost his brother to suicide. His father, played surprisingly by Pierce Brosnan (Bond, James Bond!) is a high flying businessman whom Tyler resents for not spending enough time with his family.

On top of all this there are a few subplots which fail to show any relevance and also never really come to a resolution! Tyler's younger sister (played by the cute Ruby Jerins who in my opinion just seemed excited and nervous to be acting next to R-Patz who I don't doubt she has a crush on!) apparently experiences some sort of blackouts during school which causes her some trouble with classmates, and Ally reveals she witnessed her mother's murder as a child.

If you forget all those things and focus on the main storyline, it's not a bad movie and probably an acceptable first non-Twilight offering for Pattinson. His acting in this film is decent and the story, while occasionally rushed, confusing and lacking depth, was interesting enough to keep you watching.

That is, until you come to the ridiculous surprise ending that completely comes out of nowhere. We don't want to spoil it for you, but we will tell you that the film ends with.... an explosion.

The Verdict - 6/10
If you're a Rob Pattinson fan, you'll enjoy this film. It's his starpower alone that makes the film watchable. We don't recommend this film to young Twilight fans.

Highlights
Tyler's attempt at a pick up line. Worst. Ever.
Tyler - "Can I ask your name?"
Ally -- "Anonymous"
Tyler -- "Anonymous. Is that Greek?"
