Green Day's 'American Idiot' musical is set to hit the big screen, after a successful run on Broadway.
The hit stage show, based on the band's 2004 album, will close in New York later this month ahead of a US tour. Hollywood bosses are now planning to make a movie version of the show.
The rights to the film have been bought by Tom Hanks' Playtone production company, and the actor will serve as a producer with members of the band.
Oscar winning 'Milk' screenwriter Dustin Lance Black is in talks to take charge of the script, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The movie will be directed by Michael Mayer, who helmed the Broadway stage show.
