Nirvana's Nevermind Album 20 Year Anniversary!

23 September 2011

When Nirvana dropped their debut album on September 24, 1991, their record label DGC Records doubted it would sell more than a few thousand copies.

Little did they know that not only would Nevermind somewhat kick off the 90s grunge alt rock movement, but it would become one of the biggest selling rock albums of all time and continue to inspire countless acts and albums more than two decades after its release!

This weekend, on the 20th Anniversary for Nevermind Nirvana's management and estate are commemorating the occasion by releasing a remastered edition, which is packed with never-before-heard material, live performances and alternative remixes.

Recorded in April 1990 in Wisconsin, singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Chad Channing only managed five days of recording before they ran out of money -- but the demos were strong enough to land them a major label deal a few months later, with Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl jumping in to fill the role of drummer.

Watch the iconic "Smells Like Teen Spirit," video here!

Talking about the day they recorded this seminal album, Krist Novoselic told Rollingstone.com earlier this month:

"We had this motel room, and we would go to Smart Studios and work every day," he says. "Kurt was charming and witty, but he would go through these mood swings."

"He would be totally engaged, then all of a sudden a light switch would go off and he'd go sit in the corner and completely disappear into himself."

Nevermind marked Nirvana's second last studio release, before the untimely death of leader singer Kurt Cobain in March 1994, from a drug and alcohol overdose.

It has been a long 20 years since the band's aggressive and revolutionary vibrations originally soared through the radio airwaves, however the broken teen spirit found in Nevermind still lives on in the youth and music of today.

Whichever MORON wrote this article needs to have their employment w/ this site terminated immediately! Cobain blew his head off w/ a shotgun, he didn't overdose on drugs and alcohol -- they're just a little different, don't you think? If you're going to write an article on something like Nirvana (or anything else for that matter), you should know the facts, especially when it concerns a key fact about why the band is no longer in existence.
