Review: Breaking Dawn Will Impress Twilight Fans!

16 November 2011

Well the movie take40.com (and the rest of the world) have been anticipating for close to twelve months has finally been released -- and we thought it was fantastic!

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 had its world premiere on Monday in L.A, and we were lucky enough to catch a preview screening this evening.

Check out the photos from the Breaking Dawn black carpet premiere here!

First of all, despite the bad reviews we've been reading of this flick, Breaking Dawn impressed us (and the audience by the sounds of it) and if it's keeping the fans happy, then that's probably what matters the most!

As someone who has never read any Twilight books (I can hear Twihards gasping in horror) I can't say how Breaking Dawn ranked against them, but I was pleasantly surprised that I came out liking this film above all the others, and am keen to see the next one!

We've all seen snippets of this film throughout the year (spoiler alert!) -- Edward and Bella get married, and have a steamy honeymoon involving one and a half scenes of post marital sex after which Kristen manages to become a vampire baby mama.

There were a few things the fans have been wanting to hear about -- the wedding, the honeymoon (the sex) and the baby birthing.

So let's get down to it.

Bella's wedding dress is stunning, as you might have expected -- it's a full length silken number with lots of lace detailing on the back.

The honeymoon pad is set is gorgeous Brazil, and is the perfect setting for Edward and Bella to make love for the first time -- which, let's be honest is the part that most people are keen to hear about!

The sex scene is done in a fairly tasteful and non-gratuitous way, it starts with a steamy moonlit skinny dip and ends with Edward breaking the headboard of their bed and shredding the doona with his pesky vampire strength. Bella is left covered in feathers and bruises after this encounter. Perplexing.

After Edward knocks up Bella, it's pretty much all down hill in the looks department for Kristen Stewart. As the vamp baby harms her from the inside, the film stylists have succeeded in showing us a side of Kristen never seen before -- sickly, emaciated and just plain unattractive!

The birth scene is fairly graphic in terms of teen movies -- with Kristen having to drink her own blood, and then undergo a bloody C-section in a room full of blood thirsty vampires. I'm sure you can do the maths there. Robert Pattinson really shines through this scene, as Edward deals with possibly losing the love of his life.

Taylor Lautner is of course present in this movie as well as one third of the EdBellJac love triangle, although he is only topless for about 5 seconds at the start of the film (sigh)! As a werewolf he manages to fall out of love with Kristen and fall in love (or imprint) on her newborn baby in the blink of an eye. Anyone else have a problem with this?

We're not going to spoil all the surprises, but if we could give you one last hot tip - Watch the credits, there's an extra scene!

Let's be honest- we know this movie isn't going to be winning any Oscars, but for a film that was essentially about a couple getting married and having a baby, we reckon Breaking Dawn did a ripper job.

We give it 8 fangs out of 10

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 opens in cinemas around Australia tomorrow.

Love your article and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. To answer your question about "does anyone else have a problem with this?" Referring to Jacob imprinting on Renesmee. Anyone that does obviously didn't read the books. Jacob does not think of Renesmee sexually, and won't until she is full grown, imprinting doesn't necessarily mean that he is in love with her like that and wants her. He is meant to be her protector and her friend, and yes when she gets older possibly have a romantic relationship which would be Renesmee's choice. That being said, one more point. Edward can read Jacob's mind. Do you think he'd let him live, or be anywhere around Jacob if he thought of her in that way. NO. ***SPOILER**** In one of the last pages of Breaking Dawn he states that he is impressed with Jacob because when he found out that Renesmee would reach adulthood in 16 years, he didn't even once think about that, or look forward to it. People that think anything more are the perverted ones.
