Demi Moore has confirmed her six-year marriage to Ashton Kutcher is over.
Although the couple have been surrounded by break up speculation for a few months, they refrained from commenting on the issue until this week.
There were a lot of rumours suggesting that Ashton had cheated on Demi, although the couple appeared to be trying to work through any problems by making an effort to spend more time together.
This week Demi has made the split official - although she only hints at the affair scandal, which appears to have prompted her to leave 33-year-old Kutcher.
A statement released on Thursday reads, "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton."
"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life."
"This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."
Releasing his own statement via Twitter.com, Ashton added, "I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail."
Last month a supermodel named Sara Leal went public with claims she had had unprotected sex with Kutcher during a summer fling in San Diego, California and released the story in a tabloid magazine.
