Singer Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48.
Whitney, who was seen as pop music's queen, has been on a steady decline due to drug use and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby brown.
However the news of her death, confirmed by Houston's publicist on Saturday, has sent shock waves through the music community.
The cause and location of her death is still unknown.
The news of Houston's death has come on the eve of music's biggest night- the Grammy Awards.
The Grammys were once where Houston would reign, so the news of her death is sure to change the mood of the Awards today.
At her peak Houston was the golden girl of the music industry, taking the title of one of the highest-selling artists from the middle of the 1980's to the end of the 1990's.
She has influenced a generation of young female singers, including Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera.
However towards the end of her career Whitney was dealing with the falling sales of her albums, atrocious reviews for failed performances and the backlash that came after she revealed the extent of her drug use and the effect it had on her career and home life.
In an infamous interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer in 2002 the embattled singer told the host, "The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy."
Rest in Peace Whitney.
