Neighbours Broadcasts Their First Male Gay Kiss!

10 April 2012

Long running Aussie soapie Neighbours has finally manned up, and included a male gay kiss in an episode which aired last night.

It has taken 27 years for a man on man pash to make it onto the show.

The scene occurred at a house party where openly homosexual character Chris Pappas (played by James Mason) smooched on-screen boyfriend Aidan Foster (played by Bob Morley) on the dance floor.

Neighbours also featured a lesbian kiss 8 years ago between schoolgirls Lana Crawford (Bridget Neval) and Sky Mangel (Stephanie McIntosh) and received a lot of backlash, but last night there was only praise from viewers around the country.

"Well done to @james_mason15 for showing its ok to be gay. Be proud."tweeted one fan.

There was little build-up to the brief scene, which stayed true to promises by executive producer Susan Bower to treat the kisses between same sex couples like any other interactions on the show.

''It's not sensationalist or token - we are very proud of the way we have done this,'' she said.

What did you think of the kiss?
