Remember John Mayer? Yeah we struggled too!
But that would be because after a horror year of regrettable interviews with Rolling Stone and Playboy (in which he spilled all the details of his romances with Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston) John went into hiding.
Watch the Take 40 countdown!
In a recent candid interview with Ellen DeGeneres John admits that he regrets becoming a punch line during that time after giving up too much information -- including his love of pornography and labelling Jessica Simpson 'sexual napalm'.
Back in the spotlight after a break, Mayer admits he was glad he took the advice to disappear for a while and not try to explain his comments in a series of planned TV interviews.
He told Ellen, "It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult. For a couple of years it was just figuring it all out and I'm glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight."
He added, "I think back then (and) I would have said, 'Give me two weeks,' or like, 'Let me get out and do Ellen and let me explain myself.' It was like, 'No, idiot. Go away and be 33 and 34 instead of 28 for the fourth year.'"
Mayer also admitted that he lost his head a little during that time, and that he can barely remember some of those high profile interviews.
He said, "I kind of lost touch and I didn't want to ask for directions. I did a couple of some dumb interviews and it kind of woke me up... I don't even remember having a Rolling Stone cover."
