Katy Perry: 'I Haven't Been Asked To Star In Freddie Mercury Biopic'

Katy Perry has downplayed rumours that she is set to take to the big screen to star alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in an upcoming biopic on the life of flamboyant rocker Freddie Mercury.

Earlier this year reports suggested that Perry was being lined up to play Mary Austen (Mercury's longtime girlfriend) opposite comedian Cohen, who has signed on to play the Queen frontman.

Katy admits that she would love to tackle the role but insists that speculation about her involvement in the planned project is premature.

She told Eonline.com, "There's something about the Internet that's sort of funny - it's that nothing is true on there. There's been no formal offer. Although I do like the association and I like the company because I think Sacha Baron Cohen is hilarious."

Perry has long credited Mercury as one of her biggest music influences and even dressed up as the late rocker to celebrate her 24th birthday.
