REVIEW: The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Reached Lofty Heights PLUS We Chatted To The Cast!

The Take 40 team were lucky enough to attend a preview screening of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' last night, and we were pretty entertained by what we saw!

Let me start by saying that I enjoy the stories behind Marvel Comics, but honestly I don't know the full back history of Spider-Man, or how the film incarnations of these iconic stories hold up against the originals.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man, and thought it presented well against the last set of films where Tobey Maguire played the leading man.

This time around it's Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as the stars of the show, and while they both definitely look too old to be in highschool (Andrew turns 29 in August, and Emma hits 24 in November), this didn't really detract from the storyline.

Andrew played a likeable and slightly leaner Spider-Man than we've seen in recent years, and Emma Stone's kooky sense of humour and general awesomeness helped bring the film to life. They definitely were a highlight of the movie, and had great on-screen chemistry (not surprising given that they're smooching in real-life)!

The film was in 3D, which leant itself to the swooping shots of the urban jungle that is New York City. Every time Spider-Man flew between buildings or scaled sky-high fire escapes you felt you were right there with him, and it added to the excitement of the film.

As this movie is a remake of the Sam Raimi film series from a few years ago, a lot of the same storylines are represented, including the way Peter Parker came to have his superhuman capabilities, and his reason for becoming Spider-Man.

This film explores more of Peter Parker, his parents' disappearance and hints at darker storylines to come. Make sure you stay through the credits to see one more extra scene!

If you are a fan of the original comic, or even if you are not, I would recommend you see The Amazing Spider-Man for its' killer cast, crazy action scenes and stunning special effects.

It comes out around Australia on the 4th of July.
