Katie Holmes' Friends Reveal 'Her Marriage Was Shocking'

Katie Holmes's former school friends have spoken out to reveal that the actress' decision to ditch Catholicism for Scientology when she married Tom Cruise caused a 'massive rift' among her friends and family.

Now that Katie and Tom have gone their separate ways, she has reportedly decided to return to her Catholic Church in New York.

Her childhood friends are now saying that it will take a while to forgive her.

Kari Somo, a former classmate of Katie's at Catholic Notre Dame Academy, revealed to Celebuzz:

"We thought it was very shocking when (Katie) turned to Scientology, since we were all brought up Catholic."

"I know (her) parents had an issue with it. I don't think they were very happy with it. (It was) jarring -- and caused severe rifts within her family."

Another former high school buddy, Angela Domschot, says Katie turned to Scientology just for Tom.

"We were all shocked when she turned to Scientology but when you're besotted with someone, I guess you'll do what they want," she revealed.
