Is Big Brother Australia Slammed For Being 'Too White' This Year

A Melbourne comedian has slammed Big Brother, after the series return this week failed to see any ethnic housemates enter the house on the first night.

Italian-Australian stand-up comic Gabriel Rossi, is most well-known for his show Reservoir Wogs which plays upon his ethnicity, and took to Facebook to launch the angry broadside at the show's producers after the first few contestants were revealed.

"Australia is populated by 23 million people, 40% of which are of ethnic descent... And yet, after auditioning over 20,000 people for the new Big Brother, all ten contestants are Anglos... Am I surprised? No," he said.

"I watched it in the hope they would introduce a good mix of people from different backgrounds, but I also knew it wasn't going to happen. I guess I just wanted to be wrong for once about the industry but I should have known better."

"It would be nice to have a true representation of the population of Australia in a show like this. Instead, what we get is a watered-down version of The Shire."

Gabriel added later "People say I spoke to soon re the whole Big Brother's lack of ethnic contestants. Then, of course, in waltzes George, with his part Lebanese, part Greek and part poodle mix.. But BB didn't let me down with the final two housemates being more of the same Anglo-ish types.."

"So, there you have it people. 1 dubious ethnic out of 14 housemates.. No indigenous types, no brown-skinned sub-Continentals, no Orientals, no Africans and no Muslim or Jewish housemates. Yes - TV knows how to reflect society in Australia..."
