Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens' new movie 'Spring Breakers' has had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, and the reviews are streaming in!
The pair star alongside James Franco and Ashley Benson in the "pop poem" film about bikini clad bank robbers.
If there was any doubt that the actresses were well shot of their former Disney personas, the concoction of nude and lesbian themed scenes directed by Harmony Korine is enough to seal the deal!
See what the cast has been getting up to in Venice!
Screaming teen fans were out in force for the Venice premiere, chasing Selena and the rest of the cast for autographs.
"It was a dream. It was just like a fantasy," Harmony Korine told reporters. "I wanted to make a movie with very little dialogue, more sensory, like a pop poem. Sometimes words get in the way."
The plot revolves around four hedonistic girls who go to Florida for their spring break university holiday - a binge of drink, drugs and flesh. Their fortunes take a turn for the worse when they are arrested and are bailed out by Franco's creepy gold-toothed gangster character Alien.
Super sweet Selena Gomez plays Faith, the least wild of a group of four young college students on their mid-term "spring break", and the actress admitted that some of her fans would find the movie shocking.
"Obviously I know that coming from Disney Channel gives you kind of a brand in a way," the 20-year-old told reporters in Venice after the movie was screened."
"People do put a label on you. I know that I have younger fans, and this is an opportunity for myself to kind of grow. It is a little shocking, I think, for the younger audiences ... but I think it was right for me."
"I did things I didn't even know I could do on the movie and I do think it was because I trusted Harmony," she added.
The reviews are already streaming in, with some critics insisting that Spring Breakers was overdone and pretentious, while others described it as "wild" and "compelling" and a breath of fresh air at a film festival dominated by more serious films.
Spring Breakers is due out on general release next year. Sad we have to wait for so long!
