REVIEW: Hanson, The Palace, Melbourne, 14th September 2012

16 September 2012

Wow was I excited to see these guys in concert. Hanson was (or still is) my Bieber. When they first immerged into the 90s pop scene, no one had seen such a response from crazy teenage girls since Beatles. And now over 15 years later we compare One Direction to Hanson.  I was thirteen when Hanson popped into my musical radar. I was the fan that told all of my friends I hated them, but actually owned every record (including the Christmas special, Snowed In), knew all the lyrics and collected all the TV Hits posters. For me the cutest Hanson brother was definitely Taylor.

I grew up in a small country town and was absolutely gutted I never got the opportunity to see them live in concert.  And, I never thought I would, until a last minuet opportunity came up to review the concert.  Suddenly my inner schoolgirl reappeared, I was so giddy with excitement.

These boys totally still have it.

I went to the Justin Bieber concert, and the girls at the Palace Theatre in Melbourne were just as loud, if not louder.  The boys kicked off with “Where’s The Love”, my personal favorite. It sounded just as it used to. Then followed  “Thinking Bout Something”, a track off their most recent record. I actually know none their more recent tracks, but the crowd in Melbourne’s Palace Theatre certainly knew this one.

Anyone who owned a copy of “Middle of Nowhere” (and apparently 1 in 10 of you did) will be familiar with last night’s crowd highlights, “A Minute Without You”, “Thinking of You” and “Madaline”.

But we were all waiting for “MMMbop”. The band’s defining hit. Last’s night’s rendition was not as poppy as I remember it to be.  But I still knew all the words and it had me reliving any moments from my former youth.

The night finished off with “If Only”, the whole crowd jumping with Taylor, a rock n roll knee slide from Issac, and Zac back flipping off his bass drum.  The boys were so gracious to their adoring fans, jumping down into the pit to shake as many hands as they could.

I give it an 8/10. And Isaac Hanson is definitely now the hottest Hanson brother. They’re coming into the office later in the week. I don’t know how I’ll be able to act cool.
