On tonight’s episode of The X Factor Australia the remaining eight contestants will be stepping back in time to the 80’s – a time of big hair, fluoro fashions and at times questionable music!
The show opened with Jason appropriately singing I’m Still Standing by Elton John – and it seems he may be standing on the X Factor stage for a little bit longer if the judges reactions to his performance is anything to go by! All four loved him and commented on how week to week his confidence grows!
Angel Tupai took on power ballad I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner – and after her train wreak performance last week Guy welcomed her back to competition, Mel B called it her best performance and Ronan says he felt like he was at “the Angel show”.
Guy Sebastian’s song choice of Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got To Do With It for Nathaniel had the judges laughing, but not for long. Mel B called it a “bad karaoke version of the song” and “not cool at all”, but Guy argued that it showed a different, lighter side to his personality.
Ronan continued the boys singing songs by women trend – giving Fortunate How Will I Know by Whitney Houston. The Judges felt that the boys were back this week – applauding their vocal, styling and performance!
Bella Ferraro performed her version of protest song 99 Red Balloons – and promptly burst into tears afterwards, telling the judges she had a bit of a panic attack before coming onstage! The judges soon picked her up though calling the performance ‘brilliant’ and her best performance yet.
Next up Samantha Jade gave an uplifting performance of You Can’t Hurry Love – with Mel B still arguing that it wasn’t edgy enough for her!
Shiane sang True Colours by Cyndi Lauper and revealed that it was dedicated to her family friend who is in a wheel chair. Guy Sebastian applauded Shiane for really connecting with her audience and Ronan called it her best performance in the competition so far – but Mel B wasn’t a fan, labelling the performance too ‘nasally’.
The Collective closed the show with a very updated version of Madonna’s Like A Prayer –Nat Bass found it “daggy”, Guy thought it was “awesome” and loved the rap and Mel B said “sexy is back” and that she “loved it and I love you!”.
Who was your favourite performance tonight?
