My Kitchen Rules' Jessie And Biswa Speak Out About Death Threats And Racial Abuse

08 February 2013

Days after they were eliminated from My Kitchen Rules, contestants Jessie and Biswa continue to get a slurry of racist comments and death threats.

The two Indian Australian women, who were known as 'The Spice Girls', were eliminated from the cooking competition on Wednesday.

They were perceived as overtly confident on MKR, and were criticised for speaking bluntly about their opponents.

They also infamously scored one of their rivals dishes a ‘1 out of 10’ which was seen as an unfair and simply strategic move.

Jessie and Biswa have now spoken out about the storm of racist and violent abuse they have received on social media.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Biswa revealed "The thing I am concerned about is the race comments, that worries me… We are caught between two worlds. The Indian community doesn't want to adopt us, the Australians just think we are a***holes."

Jessie added that they had thought their behaviour on My Kitchen Rules would be taken as a bit of "fun" and didn't expect the social media hate and death threats.

"If I was in their (viewers) shoes maybe I would be thinking the same like, 'these girls - I can't believe it, s**t just falls out of their mouths'," Jessie said.

"We've had death threats, but I don't take it seriously. It is all social media anyway. We had nothing planned before we entered the show and we said 'Let's just have fun'. Fun turned into something completely different in Australia's eyes."

"Sometimes we didn't even realise the cameras were there or the mics were on and we were speaking like we would to each other at home."

Are you glad Jessie and Biswa are gone? Did they deserve some of the criticism they received? Obviously they did not deserve the racism or death threats though!
