Ellen DeGeneres Postpones Australian Visit Due To Illness - Statement Released

15 March 2013

Such sad news for Ellen fans (and us)!

The Emmy winning host Ellen DeGeneres has had to cancel episodes of her talk show due to ill health, ahead of her scheduled departure to Australia.

The 55 year old is believed to have the flu, and although TV producers are yet to confirm the illness will keep her state side, they did hint that her trip Down Under will be delayed.

Ellen and her wife Australian actress Portia DeGeneres are due to be on a plane right now, but Ellen is said to be too sick to travel!

"Unfortunately Ellen is still feeling under the weather and will not be taping today," one producer revealed on Thursday US time.

Ellen to meet PM Julia Gillard and confront her about gay marriage?

DeGeneres has been tweeting about being sick from LA all week, leading to speculation that she might not be coming.

She’s not sick enough to stop her joking though, with one post reading "Trying to get over a bug before I go to Australia. Nobody wants to be down under the weather."

The day before she wrote "Between my humidifier and Portia making me tea non-stop, there's so much steam coming from our house people think we picked the new Pope."

This tour has been almost 12 months in the planning – we hope she gets better super soon!

UPDATE: A statement has been released from Warner Bros confirming that Ellen's trip has been postponed.

It explained “The Ellen DeGeneres Show will delay its arrival into Australia by a few days while Ellen recovers from the flu. Ellen will meet her fans in Sydney later next week, and will then head to Melbourne. More announcements about the trip will be made in coming days."
