Despite the general growing excitement over Beyonce’s reworked version of Back To Black on The Great Gatsby soundtrack – there is someone out there unimpressed with the version… and it is Amy Winehouse’s dad Mitch!
When asked about the cover, Mitch was straight to the point about what he thought about the track – saying it has nothing on the original!
He said, “I don’t think she brings anything to it. I wasn’t asked for my permission if they could record it.”
Mitch did reveal that he has now agreed to the songs use in the film, but that he made Baz Luhrmann and crew pay for the privilege!
He added, “They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing. I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money.”
In the meantime Mitch has been working on a follow-up to Amy posthumous album Lioness: Hidden Treasures.
The new album will feature some of Amy’s early work and all profits from the album will go towards the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
The new collection is expected to be released via Island Records with some input from producer Mark Ronson, who worked with Amy in the past.
