REVIEW: Ricky Martin, Melbourne, 5 October 2013 Rod Laver Arena - A Bon Bon Shaking Fiesta!

06 October 2013

Last night a sold out Rod Laver Arena was treated to one of the most entertaining, exciting and dance packed concerts of the year…Ricky Martin you are a superstar!

The Grammy winner donned a sharp white suit along with his 8 incredibly talented dancers and band to kick the show off with his latest single ‘Come With Me’. Ricky declared his mantra for the night was “I don’t care!” and that he would leave his soul on the stage…the pouring sweat coming off the star by the end of the night certainly indicated just that!

After a year in which Australia has been treated to some of the globe’s best including Pink, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper and Neil Young to name a few, Martin can definitely claim to be up there with the best. The 41 year old brings incredible joy and charisma to the stage, whilst also appearing genuinely humble and appreciative of his fans.

Without doubt, much of his recent Australian success relies heavily on his appearance as a judge on reality TV show ‘The Voice’. After declaring it was one of his greatest life experiences, he brought team members Luke Kennedy and Caterina Torres to the stage for ‘She’s All I Ever Had’, ‘Private Emotion’ and ‘Nobody Wants To Be Lonely’.

Ricky then busted out his infamous hip shaking moves for second half of the show where he celebrated his Latin American heritage. If he has some of the best hip shaking moves in the world, he certainly has the voice to match. It really is very hard to fault Mr Martin.

The crowd was out of their seats for the majority of the show which included a dance-off to ‘Maria’ choreographed by the man himself.

Even if you’re not a huge fan of Ricky’s music, it was hard not to be swept up in the Latino party that went down in Melbourne last night. 10 costume changes, a band comprising of musicians from around the world, 8 dancers, fantastic production…do yourself a favour and get onboard!

3. It’s Alright
4. Livin’ la Vida Loca
5. She Bangs
6. She’s All I Ever Had

Couldn't agree more with this review, Joy & charisma is exactly what he brought to the stage. This was a really fun show to be at & it's so nice to see someone in Ricky's position who is so happy, grateful & appreciative of being able to do what he does. Hope the rest of the tour goes from strength to strength.
