The wait is nearly over for Britney fans wanting to check out whether the girl can act. UK website worldpop.com posted the following critique after a UK preview of Britney's movie 'Crossroads'.
'In her movie debut Britney proves she's an accomplished actress as she carries a very entertaining film which charts the story of three childhood friends, Lucy (Britney), Kit and Mimi who are reuinited at their high school graduation. They decide to make a childhood pact to go in search of their destinities and the film catches up with them 8 years later as they set off on a road trip, hitching a lift with Mimi's handsome friend Ben (Britney's love interest). Along the way Britney searches out her long lost mum, there are thrills, spills and tears. The thorny issues of rape, miscarriage and sex are addressed but not in graphic or salacious detail.
The story is like any other number of coming-of-age movies but what raises it above the usual quagmire of run-of-the-mill teen flicks is the performances of Britney, her school chums Kit (Zoe Saldana) and Mimi (Taryn Manning). Britney shines in her movie debut, proving she can handle a range of emotions. There are a few cheesy moments - Britney writing a song with her love interest Ben at the piano for instance (Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman) but Britney proves she has star quality in a scene where the girls enter a karaoke scene and Britney is forced, reluctantly, to sing her cover of I Love Rock and Roll. (Surprise, surprise!)'
'Crossroads' will be released in the UK on 29 March.
